Long Live Summer 2023!

When my kids were really little, I felt like we hardly ever left the house. Now, with five teenagers, I felt like my kids were hardly home. This was a summer of travel and adventures. A friend reminded me that, “memories don’t make themselves.” Summer seems to be the best time for us to make some really special memories.

Sports have provided a way for our family to travel and see different parts of the country.

  • The Ekstrand boys played and watched a lot of baseball – a highlight was catching a game at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
  • Lacrosse brought us up and down the East Coast, including New York City and riding the subway with lacrosse stick in tow.
  • Studying abroad in college is a formative experience for developing independence and broadening perspective. Topped with a visit from a sibling, London and Paris in the summer is hard to beat.

Birthdays are a favorite in the Ekstrand house. We love to celebrate birthdays. We have a milestone coming up – 18 years old for the triplets, so we are celebrating big time this year. Eliza’s surprise included a trip to California, bike riding and waterskiing on Lake Tahoe, and yes, seeing Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour (life-changing!).
